Empire's New Sherlock Cover Is Here
And Moriarty talks A Game Of ShadowsIf you're looking out your window onto a rainy day, remember that it could be worse. If this were the 19th century, that'd be a thick pea-souper that'd give you respiratory problems soon as look at you - but on the upside, you might also get to hang out with Victorian sleuth Sherlock Holmes, as brought to life by Robert Downey Jr in Guy Ritchie's upcoming sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and on the cover of the new Empire magazine. {Empire Sherlock Holmes 2 Cover}This time, Sherlock himself is a bit more pulled together - he's got some snazzy new duds, for instance - and the crew are determined not to rest on their laurels (or sacks of cash) from last time. Says Downey, Last time we were, I think, treated very kindly, considering that the movie had enough really good, bright, sweet parts and it kinda held up. However, it wasn't exactly the most innovative or clever act three of any movie. But we're all confident that, this time, for the bones of the story, we couldn't work it out any better than we have. We also chatted to Jared Harris about playing arch villain Professor Moriarty. He's the ringmaster. He casts his shadow over the whole film, he's the motivator of the plot. I'm sure you've noticed that people who don't really give a fuck what anybody else thinks, and don't care what the consequences of their actions are are long as they're okay, and don't believe in any kind of divine retribution, they have a licence to do absolutely anything they want. And people who operate within a moral compass, like Sherlock Holmes, their hands are tied. So I'd say Moriarty is very dangerous. Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows is out on December 16 as a sort of early Christmas present. The new Empire is out on Thursday, as a very early Christmas present. New Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark Clips
And behind-the-scenes photosAs the release date for Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark inches ever closer to its October 7 debut (unless you happen to see it at FrightFest this weekend), a plethora of new pictures and several new clips have hit the interwebs. The new pics come from the 19th century opening to the film, wherein we get a few clues why this particular des. res. has been lying empty for the last hundred years or so. We don't want to say too much, but let's say it's not all cheery waltzes and long lives of wearing doilies on their head for Blackwood (Garry McDonald) and his housekeeper (Edwina Ritchard). {Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark BTS}As for the clips, beware mild spoilers (more in the one called The Garage than the others) but they will give you a taste for the creepiness awaiting. The project, titled The Last Resort, was pitched to the networks on Friday with the deal at ABC closing in principal last night, though final points are still being ironed out. Sony Pictures TV, where Ryan is based with an overall deal, is producing. The Last Resort is described as a big swing and massive in scope. It is a thriller set in the near future when the country is very fractured and revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who become hunted after ignoring an order to shoot nuclear missiles. Emmys 2011: Can Anybody Break 'The Daily Show's' Emmy Streak?
Jon Stewart themself may be feeling just a little greedy at this time. Never within the good reputation for the range, music and comedy series category, established in 1951, has one show had this type of monster run. The Daily Show has 14 wins, eight of these consecutive series trophies. However with Jay and Dork snubbed and Fallon and Conan within the mix, a ocean change could finally be coming for any awesome category affected by of a routine.Related Subjects•Emmys The Colbert Report Comedy Central Why It Might Win: Associated with a series on network or cable -- variety, comedy drama, reality -- nothing makes me laugh just like a fool a lot more than The Colbert Report. Between faux-blowhard Stephen Colbert's incredible aptitude for newsworthy absurdism and thus-strange-they're-wonderful moments, like his musical journey to Nashville to hold with Jack Whitened, he'sthe most entertaining personality about the tube. It's impossible this series hasn't won (although it's obtained two Emmys for writing) because, frankly, Colbert is really a helluva much more fun compared to Daily Show. Why It Might Lose: Because he has frequently joked about the air, Colbert's worst enemy is Stewart, with whom he shares not just a network but additionally a publish-primetime slot. So far, the race apparently has always come lower for them. Yes, Colbert is basically "acting" on his show, so voters have preferred -- and can still favor -- Stewart's real-existence method of news analysis over spoofy theatrics. PHOTOS: Emmy Nomination Snubs, Shockers and Surprises Late Evening with Jimmy Fallon NBC Why It Might Win: On Emmy nominations morning, still giddy about the phone from New You are able to, Jimmy Fallon stated something interesting: "We're the only real late-evening show that's a classic comedy, music and variety series, apart from SNL." He's right: One of the weeknight nominees within this category, Fallon consistently produces probably the most original music content, comedy sketches (many shot) and variety-esque shows of silliness (beer pong with The month of january Johnson!). The Lorne Michaels protege inherited a difficult-to-beat legacy from Conan O'Brien and it has handled the recognition with utmost aplomb. His killer Emmy hosting gig this past year didn't hurt, either. Why It Might Lose: Fallon could are afflicted by the brand new-kid-on-the-block shutout that affected O'Brien, whose NBC series Late Evening never won. PHOTOS: David Strick 2011 Emmy Nominees Saturday Evening Live NBC Why It Might Win: Having a slew of remarkable hosts last season, including guest-star nominees Tina Fey, Zach Galifianakis and front-runner Justin Timberlake, the 36-year-old staple has handled to retain its youthful appeal (digital shorts starring Michael Bolton!) while keeping that old-school spirit of their creator, Michaels. Mind author Seth Meyers, also nominated, is the best merry prankster to supervise SNL's antics in modern times, and it is awesome cast -- Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, et al. -- makes a dying genre relevant again. Why It Might Lose: The range, music and comedy race has morphed into something unfriendly to SNL (it last won in 1993) since it's format no more includes a peer. Conan The best spinner's Why It Might Win: O'Brien hasn't lost the underdog quirk that made his NBC series this type of hit among youthful audiences through the the nineteen nineties. His well-promoted Fight Using the Guy at the begining of 2010 only bolstered his appeal, and despite the fact that his The best spinner's version pulls in modest amounts (about a million audiences), O'Brien is really a survivor, and Emmy loves a meaty backstory. And hey, standing on fundamental cable hasn't hurt The Daily Show one bit. Why It Might Lose: Voters might feel a jerk for Conan is premature this season which his inclusion even without the other more powerful challengers -- no Letterman, Kimmel or Handler? -- feels a little gratuitous. Real-time with Bill Maher Cinemax Why It Might Win: Nobody brings about with less self-awareness than perennial nominee (and loser) Bill Maher. The stand-up comedian and filmmaker (Religulous) clearly comes with an impressive achieve in the market, putting together killer lineups of questionable speaking heads every week, such as the bipartisan, questionable likes of Richard Clarke, Ann Coulter, Eliot Spitzer and Serta Savage. Love him or detest him, Maher may be the only soul on television brave enough to shirk any pressure to become pleasant. Why It Might Lose: His acerbic routine, though his phone card, is really a turn-on some. And airing only once per week, on Fridays, doesn't position him to contend with Stewart and Colbert, who reach skewer four days per week. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Comedy Central Why It Might Win: Stewart is easily the most reliable guy in news as well as an open advocate for U.S. soldiers and 9/11 sufferers. He's also overseen the winningest variety show in Emmy history. As well as when Daily Show side bits don't kill, Stewart is definitely good. Oh, and that he just came back from the surprise visit to go to the troops in Afghanistan. Why It Might Lose: The show's eight-year Emmy monopoly. With many different new names elsewhere about the ballot, it's obvious that voters are craving new bloodstream. Titanic In three dimensional At Giant Screen
Sneak look of Cameron's classic & moreIt's at last. After several weeks of labor and whole minutes of preparation, Empire Presents...Giant Screen began today in the O2 working in london. Our very own Chris Hewitt was there to provide the big event in fashion, or at best their own inimitable style, and the initial studio to provide footage was twentieth century Fox. Fox' Chris Eco-friendly was there to provide the panel. He began using the just-launched Rise From The Planet From The Apes, in which we had a featurette about the groundbreaking apes results of the film along with a quick consider the barnstorming last act. It was the turn of Over Time, the Justin Timberlake / Amanda Seyfried sci-fi thriller. Which was exactly the same lengthy-form trailer we have seen before, however it looked great about the giant screen. It was the turn of Russian-set sci-fi thriller The Pitch-dark Hour (in three dimensional) and a little of the change of pace using the much-recognized indie Martha Marcy May Marlene. We'd an intro from a few of the world's best company directors - including James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Tim Burton, Matthew Vaughn, Timur Bekmambetov, Cameron Crowe and George Lucas - speaking regarding their passion for cinema and (not surprisingly because of the hosts) dealing with Fox, that was nonetheless rather awesome. Well, they are all very wise and entertaining males. We carried out with phone remastered three dimensional version of Titanic, which is launched the coming year for that 100th anniversary from the disaster, having a specifically-recorded intro from producer Jon Landau. The moments we had spanned the majority of the movie, from Rose's arrival in the ship, Jack's appearance in the lent tuxedo, the dancing below decks, the "I am flying!" scene, the ship's first sight from the iceberg, the "Nearer My God To Thee" montage (yup, will still be a tear-jerker in stereoscope) and also the memorable sight from the ship up-ending and sinking for the waves. As you may expect with Cameron themself managing the conversion, it had been pretty perfect within the footage we had, adding just a little dimension to occasions (particularly the view of the engine room pistons slowing down and curing speed) but without showing an excessive amount of a distraction. Roll on April 2012, frankly.

TCA: Kevin Williamson Says 'Secret Circle' And 'Vampire Diaries' Won't Cross Over
Diane Haithmanis contributing to Deadline's coverage of TCA. According to executive producer Kevin Williamson, there wont be any guest crossover, or story crossover, between the CWs The Vampire Diaries and the network's newseries The Secret Circle, making its debut Sept. 15. Even though both series are based on supernatural book series by the same teen-appeal author, L.J. Smith, Williamson told a TCA audience today that an effort is being made to keep the shows separate. The witch mythology of Secret Circle and the vampire-werewolf-occasional witch mythology of Vampire Diaries, he said, just dont mix. I dont think youll see that crossover, he said. That would kind of limit us. We want to create our own story. And its not just about the mythology. Secret Circle is shot in and around Vancouver, B.C. and Williamson was asked whether it might not have been easier, financially and physically, to shoot the new show on location in or near Atlanta, where Vampire Diaries is shot, Williamson said: I dont want the show to look like Vampire Diaries. (He acknowledged after the session that Vancouver priced out over some other locations. It made sense financially, visually. Williamson -- co-executive producing Secret Circles with Andrew Miller (Imaginary Bitches), Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl) and Gina Girolamo -- said following the panel that taking on a new show will not affect his involvement in Vampire Diaries as co-showrunner with longtime collaborator Julie Plec. We call each other every night and cry for two hours and figure out what were going to do. Were joined at the hip. He said he has tried to talk Plec into assuming creative duties for the new show but so far she has resisted. Williamson -- who appeared on the panel with co-execs Girolamo and Miller, as well as star Britt Robertson and other cast members -- also said that the world of magic lends itself to a slightly lighter tone than the vampire scene. Its an honest reaction to the world around them, they are suddenly making this magic. There is a certain snark to that, he said. But not too light, a la Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Its very dark, but not that hard-edge ripping hearts out and slicing people open like Vampire Diaries," he said. Were just challenged as to what can witches do? Yes, there will be humor and scary witchy-woo. As have other CW panelists today, Williamson challenged the notion that either show is intended to be just for that network's coveted 18-34 demographic, which is to say that not everything happens in high school corridors. The vampires are 164 years old, he points out. And what I love (about The Secret Circle) is that it is multigenerational, its not just a teen show. Its a very adult show, and it'sgoing to get very adult, very fast. Were going more in that direction.
