Mia Wasikowska on Her Busy Year in 'Jane Eyre,' 'Restless' and 'Albert Nobbs' (Audio Interview)
Focus FeaturesMia Wasikowska in "The Kids Are All Right" Over the past year, Mia Wasikowska played a key role in a film that scored a best picture Oscar nomination (The Kids Are All Right), starred in a film that made more than $1 billion at the box office (Alice in Wonderland) and was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world -- not bad for someone who only turned 22 earlier this month -- and yet virtually nobody can even pronounce her name!our editor recommends'Albert Nobbs' Trailer: Glenn Close Dons Drag to Play 19th-Century English Butler (Video)'Jane Eyre' Costume Designer Reveals Secrets Behind Mia Wasikowska's WardrobeTRAILER: 'Alice in Wonderland's' Mia Wasikowska in 'Jane Eyre' When I met up with the Australian actress last month for a chat about her life and career -- including the three films in which she stars this year, Cary Fukunaga's literary adaptation Jane Eyre (opposite Michael Fassbender) as the title character, Rodrigo Garcia's costume drama Albert Nobbs (opposite Glenn Close) as a conniving young maid and Gus Van Sant's mellow dramedy Restless (opposite Henry Hopper, the late Dennis Hopper's son) as a young girl diagnosed with terminal cancer -- I told her that I needed to know, for my peace of mind, what the proper pronunciation is. She laughed and stated for the record: "Me-yah Vash-i-kov-ska -- v's instead of w's!" PHOTOS: 28 Actresses Who Could Portray Hollywood Icon Grace Kelly That is is a name that you should learn and remember, because I think it is one that you will be hearing for the next six or seven decades. Indeed, she is one of those eerily chameleonic talents of a caliber that comes along only once or twice in a generation -- think Meryl Streep, Jodie Fosterand Kate Winslet -- and should be cherished. I know that I will never forget the first time that she came across my radar. It was in 2008, during season one of HBO's criminally underappreciated (and recently canceled) drama series In Treatment, and she was playing Sophie, one of the younger patients of psychologist Dr. Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne). Over the course of nine hourlong episodes, all of which are packed with dialogue and appear to have been captured in continuous/uninterrupted camera shots, Wasikowska makes you feel every possible emotion toward her character, who is alternately vulnerable, volatile, and sweet. It is one of the great television performances of all time, and it is absolutely inexplicable that it didn't earn her an Emmy nomination. PHOTOS: Hollywood's New Leading Ladies Anyway, the future looks bright for Wasikowska: Restless is playing still in select theaters; Albert Nobbs will open nationally Jan. 27; and, on Jan. 24, there is an outside shot that she might score a best actress Oscar nod for her critically acclaimed take on the oft-attempted title character in Jane Eyre. Then, at some point over the next few months, we'll see her playing Shia LaBeouf's girlfriend in John Hillcoat's highly anticipated bootlegging period piece The Wettest County in the World and as the daughter of fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman in Chan-woon Park's twisted-sounding Stoker. In Honor of Anonymous, 5 Reimaginings of Shakespearean Classics with Today's Auteurs
This week’s new feature Anonymous is alluring for two reasons: It explores the possibility that Shakespeare didn’t write his masterworks, and it looks unintentionally hilarious. If I could dress up for Halloween as Vanessa Redgrave’s line-reading of “None of your plays will ever carry your name,” I would. In tribute to this dubious drama, let’s explore what the Bard’s plays would sound like if they were written or retooled by current auteurs. Ready for Why Did I Get Jealous Too? Judd Apatow’s Richard III A pathetically self-deprecating, but cunning man (Russell Brand) walks with a limp and seems pretty hopeless as a lame L.A. romantic. But after a few of his detractors die, Richard catches the eye of a snappy newsmagazine correspondent (Leslie Mann), who helps assist him in his rise to prominence. As he gains recognition and takes hold over the entertainment industry, he becomes increasingly self-conscious about his decrepit state and adopts the name McLimpin’. It’s about a half hour too long. Tyler Perry’s Othello AKA Why Did I Get Jealous Too?. Tyler Perry’s version of the Venetian moor’s plight removes most of the paranoia and fear from Shakespeare’s tale and replaces them with pesky marital woes. Othello (Perry) and Dez (Taraji P. Henson) have a functional marriage, but their flippant next door neighbor Iago (Whoopi Goldberg, crossdressing and doublecrossing!) finds a way to interject mistrust into their relationship using rhyming slams, vaudevillian mockery of their weaknesses, and a “green-eyed monster” (her disruptive terrier who jumps on the furniture). Will Othello and Dez survive? Or will they smother each other with comic exasperation? Next: Tyler Perry’s Euripides’s Medea. Quentin Tarantino’s The Tempest Forget Julie Taymor: Quentin Tarantino’s version of The Tempest takes the island of weirdos and throws them in a kickass retelling of Pearl Harbor. This time, the magical Prospero uses his spells to thwart Japan’s attack, and the monster Caliban is a legendary, hairy surf champion who doesn’t mind beating up some terrorists if the timing’s right. Prospero’s daughter Miranda will not participate in her father’s tricks until she walks out of this throwback cabana with a hula trophy. Nancy Meyers’s Twelfth Night It’s a case of mistaken identity as a wealthy Los Angeles yoga instructor named Viola (Diane Keaton — in traditionally androgynous attire) decides to become an apprentice to a wealthy L.A. architect named Orsino (Steve Martin). She falls for Orsino, but he’s in love with a wealthy cartoonist named Olivia (Meryl Streep). He sends the smitten Viola over to Olivia as an emissary, but Olivia immediately falls for Viola’s winsome and gallant appeal. That hat! That vest! Those magician tails! It’s just about complicated. Darren Aronofsky’s Macbeth An unwitting protagonist descends into a dizzying, phantasmagorical vortex of power and visibility dotted with mysterious deaths and paranormal events. Actually, Macbeth should just be called Requiem for a Black Swan.

Busting Out!
An Andrew Guild, Simon Bryce, Nirenna Productions and Hayworth Theater presentation of the revue in 2 functions produced by Emma Powell, with a lot more material by Bev Killick and Bryce. Directed by Terence O'Connell. With: Emma Powell and Mandi Lodge.Subtle they ain't. Emma Powell and Mandi Lodge, the 2 blowsy, zoftig Aussie dames of "Busting Out!," seriously just like a Mack truck supported towards the Hayworth Theater having a cargo of raunch, nudity, flesh puppetry, audience participation and camping around the subjects of female breasts and girl energy. The celebration of what's going on Above would be a hit Here, but here? Just like any bachelorette party, plentiful alcohol can help. Were you to give Benny Hill a sex change and split his personality in 2, you'd get these ladies. Lodge may be the merrie trickster, naive yet having a wicked gleam in her own eye. She shakes Them using the greater vigor and flirts more freely using the gents attending (and a few of the gals too). Act two features Lodge's extended standup routine on incontinence, makeup purchasing and sex with husband, creating in good humor what she lacks in good jokes. Powell, the brains from the revue, can also be the brains from the pair and officious emcee. She's Oliver Sturdy, lengthy-battling with her partner's antics. A hostile streak busts out when, as woofing Chinese general Hung Lo, Powell goodies the crowd as her personal cadre for any class in Lactation 101. Both remove their tops early and frequently, revealing extremely pendulous accoutrements having a total insufficient self-awareness. To that particular extent "Busting Out!" is a bit of political theater, challenging males and ladies alike to conquer their discomfort, already, and embrace humans' fleshy essence. Possibly due to its touring character, the development looks rather threadbare. It clearly wasn't funded by a massive endowment in the Mellon Foundation. (Sorry just looking to get in to the spirit of the one thing.) "Busting Out!" might tickle your funny bone - the bigger your personal hooters, the much more likely it'll - there is however something admirable about its guts.Costumes, Robert Hansford lighting, Jason Bovaird. World War Z Guns Seized In Hungary
First Published: October 11, 2011 11:58 AM EDT Credit: Getty Images BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Caption Brad Pitt films a scene from World War Z in Glasgow City centre in Glasgow, Scotland on August 18, 2011 Nearly 100 live weapons to be used in Brad Pitts World War Z film were confiscated by Hungarian authorities, local media reported Tuesday. The weapons included machine guns, rifles and pistols, security officials said. The weapons arrived from London to Budapests Ferenc Liszt Airport on Saturday and were discovered at a nearby duty free zone, Janos Hajdu, head of Hungarys Counterterrorism Center, said. He said he could not confirm they were meant for the film. Its possible that all the weapons were brought in for the film, but this would not be allowed by Hungarian law, as the weapons had not been fully deactivated and could easily be used to fire live ammunition, Hajdu said on Neo FM radio. This is a very complicated case. Hajdu said the weapons had been shipped to a Hungarian company, whose representative was being questioned by investigators. Hajdu explained that in Hungary weapons were considered to be deactivated only if the process was irreversible, while the weapons seized could still be fired even though screwshad been used to fill the end of the barrels. Adam Goodman, whose company is providing production services for World War Z, said he had been advised not to comment on links between the seized weapons and the film. We are preparing as planned. We are not changing our schedule, Goodman told The Associated Press. He added that media reports claiming the film set had been raided by police to confiscate the weapons were not true. Hungarys National Investigation Office said it had launched a probe in the case, but spokesman Laszlo Bartha said they had no additional information for now. (Copyright 2011 by Associated Press. Michael Jackson Tribute Concert Goes on Despite Problems
Three generations of Michael Jackson's family -- with a few notable absentees -- joined an eclectic roster of entertainers Saturday to pay tribute to the King of Pop, a celebration of the late star's life overshadowed by the Los Angeles manslaughter trial of his doctor.our editor recommendsMichael Jackson Tribute Concert: 5 Mishaps Leading Up to the U.K. ShowBlack Eyed Peas Pull Out of Michael Jackson Tribute ConcertChristina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green to Headline Michael Jackson Tribute ConcertJamie Foxx Hosting Michael Jackson Tribute ConcertJanet Jackson Will Not Perform at Michael Jackson Tribute ConcertMichael Jackson Tribute Concert Adds Black Eyed Peas to LineupMichael Jackson's Family Announces Tribute Concert On a stage shaped like a giant glove, participants performed songs from across Jackson's career - from his childhood with the Jackson 5 through monster solo albums like "Thriller" and "Bad." Participants urged fans to ignore the criticism and planning glitches that marked preparations for the show in Wales, and to revel in the celebration of Jackson's musical legacy. PHOTOS: MTV: 30 Years of Music Videos "It's not about the controversy," said R&B star Ne-Yo, who kicked off the show with a rendition of "Billie Jean," complete with some passable moonwalking. "It's not about the trial. It's not about his death. It's about celebrating his life. It's about celebrating his music." The crowd at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium did just that, roaring with approval as Jackson's brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie -- three-fifths of the original Jackson 5 -- took the stage to perform "Blame It On the Boogie" with British boyband JLS. "Can you feel his spirit in the house tonight?" asked Marlon. Judging by the cheers, the fedora hats and the sequined gloves in the audience, many could. PHOTOS: Hollywood's Notable Deaths The lineup for the "Michael Forever" show included Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Cee Lo Green -- and, via video, Beyoncé. The concert has divided the King of Pop's family and followers. The three brothers and sister La Toya were performing, while Michael Jackson's mother Katherine was in the audience and his children Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and 9-year-old Michael Joseph Jr., known as Blanket, briefly took the stage to thank fans for coming. "We're very happy to be here on this special night to honor our father," said Paris, who like her older brother smiled and appeared confident, while Blanket stood stoic and shy. While 13 Jackson family members attended -- including vocal group 3T, composed of Tito's three sons -- Michael's brothers Jermaine and Randy and sister Janet have stayed away, saying it is wrong to hold the show at the same time as the manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray. Before the show, Marlon Jackson said he respected his siblings' decision. "Each one of us grieves differently," he said. "We want to celebrate the positive side of his life, the positive things that he did." Jackson died in June 2009, at age 50, as he was preparing for a string of comeback concerts in London. His last hours are being relived in graphic detail at the trial of Murray, accused of giving Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives in the bedroom of his rented mansion on June 25, 2009. Some fans have said it's inappropriate to hold the tribute show during the trial, but those who came to Cardiff said it was a fitting antidote to the grim courtroom spectacle. "There's a lot of negativity in that courtroom," said Ronnie Lee, a 32-year-old truck driver from Pembroke, Wales, sporting a "Thriller" T-shirt. "This is a chance to say, 'Thank you Michael' and celebrate the music." Fans across Europe gathered outside the stadium, where vendors did a brisk trade in King of Pop T-shirts and hats like those once worn by Jackson. "Whatever happens in that court, we'll never get Michael back," said Karin Kiewiet, 40, a local government worker from Emmen, Netherlands. "This is a good opportunity for us to begin grieving." The show has suffered teething problems, with producers struggling to line up top-name acts for the tribute, hosted by actor Jamie Foxx and British TV host Fearne Cotton. The Black Eyed Peas pulled out of the lineup this week, citing "unavoidable circumstances" amid reports the chart-topping band is splitting up. Organizer Chris Hunt said that despite the last-minute loss, fans could expect "a very, very spectacular show." "Everything we've done has been governed by one criterion -- would Michael have done it this way, would he approve, would he like it?" said Hunt, chief executive of Global Live Events. "We're trying to do something worthy of one of the greatest showmen of modern times." Several fan groups around the world have criticized the event, not just for its timing, but for ticket prices that started at about $100 and for what some regard as an out-of-the-way location in Cardiff, 150 miles (240 kilometers) west of London. Organizers also outraged many fans by inviting the rock band Kiss, whose bassist Gene Simmons told a magazine last year that there was "no doubt in my mind" that Jackson, who was acquitted of molestation charges in 2005, had abused children. The invitation was hastily rescinded, but many fans remained angry. "The fans are not happy that the Jackson estate is not involved," said Wesley Noorhoff, president of a Dutch Michael Jackson fan club. "It seemed like they wanted to build a concert soon, to get money. I believe it should wait, not only because of the Murray trial. If you do a tribute to Michael, it has to be the best there is, just like Michael." Hunt insisted the show would be a success. He said more than 40,000 tickets had been sold by Friday, and he was confident of reaching the venue's 50,000 capacity. Some of the proceeds will go to the AIDS Project Los Angeles and Prince's Trust charities, and a portion will be placed in a trust fund for Jackson's children, though organizers did not give an exact breakdown. Marlon Jackson, 54, said he wanted dissenters to know that Michael would have approved of the show. "I want the world to understand that my brother was more than just an entertainer," he said. "There was a human side to him as well." Related Topics International Michael Jackson

Hugh Jackman talks The Wolverine director James Mangold
Doing press for Real Steel - which opens tomorrow in the US and next week in the UK - Hugh Jackman has obviously had to field a few questions about his other projects, especially The Wolverine.Having talked up the script previously, he's now backing new director James Mangold's vision for the project."The director is going to bring their own voice to it. Jim has done some great movies. Many, many different movies like 3:10 To Yuma," Jackman told Moviefone.Excitingly, it's another Western that comes to Jackman's mind when he thinks about The Wolverine."We had an image of this movie like The Outlaw Josey Wales, which I love. And he has a really great take on it. Yes, it's going to be different than Darren [Aronofsky]'s version, but I think it's going to be just as great from what I've seen. And he's doing his tweaks to what is already a very strong script."As for Real Steel, did director Shawn Levy put his stamp on that project? After all, the original short story conjures up a much more bleak future."[Shawn] was very clear from the beginning that we needed to establish what the rules are. In the original script there were robotic dogs in that junkyard scene. So as they're trying to get out, there's a whole action sequence. And Shawn said, 'This is just confusing. You've got robotic dogs, but we're still driving an old truck? We're not having flying cars, this is not Blade Runner.'"
